(NSI News Source Info) WASHINGTON, - February 16, 2011: Afghan and coalition killed four insurgents in Afghanistan’s Kunar province yesterday, military officials reported.

Security forces fired on several insurgents behaving in a hostile manner in the province’s Darah-ye Pech district, officials said, killing three.

A separate combined patrol killed another insurgent after being fired upon in the province’s Tsowkey district.

In other news yesterday throughout Afghanistan:

-- Security forces killed two insurgents during a gun battle in Helmand province’s Musa Qalah district after a group of insurgents ambushed the troops with small-arms fire.

-- Forces killed an insurgent and wounded another in a shootout in Helmand province’s Kajaki district after being fired upon.

-- Acting on tips from local residents, Afghan and coalition troops detained several suspected insurgents, including a Haqqani terrorist network leader, in Khost province’s Sabari district. The suspected Haqqani leader is responsible for trafficking weapons to other fighters in the province.

-- Security forces captured several suspected insurgents with alleged ties to a Taliban bomb facilitator in Zabul province’s Shah Joy district. The facilitator reportedly is linked to several attacks throughout the province, officials said.

-- Forces detained two suspected insurgents, including a Taliban leader believed to be responsible for kidnappings, weapons trafficking and attacks on local security forces in Ghazni province’s provincial capital.

-- Security forces detained a suspected insurgent while searching for a Haqanni leader in Khost province’s Terayzai district. The targeted Haqanni leader is responsible for carrying out indirect-fire and roadside-bomb attacks on coalition convoys.

-- Afghan and coalition forces detained a Taliban leader in Wardak province’s Sayyidabad district, where he is known to have purchased weapons and bomb-making materials for senior Taliban leaders.

-- Security forces destroyed 4 tons of narcotics near Kandahar province’s Zharay district. The narcotics were found on an insurgent compound used for planning and facilitating attacks, officials said, and the compound also served as a hub for trafficking homemade bombs.

-- Security forces found several other weapons stockpiles throughout Afghanistan. The operations resulted in the seizure of more than 200 assault rifle rounds, 21 anti-personnel mines, 15 rocket-propelled grenades, 14 hand grenades, four assorted rockets and mortars. Various bomb-making materials also were discovered, including 11 blasting caps, eight bags of ammonium nitrate, five pressure plates, four cell phones, urea fertilizer, a roll of detonation cord and an electronic detonator. Forces also found 7,500 pounds of marijuana and a pound and a half of opium.

    ARMY

    Honeywell International, Inc., Areospace, Phoenix, Ariz., was awarded a $43,726,990 firm-fixed-price contract Feb. 14, 2011. The award will provide for 50 T55-GA-714A engines and 30 T55-GA-714A engine fielding kits. Work will be performed in Phoenix, Ariz., with an estimated completion date of Dec. 31, 2013. One bid was solicited with one bid received. The U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala., is the contracting activity (W58RGZ-04-C-0061).

    LORD Corporation, Erie, Pa., was awarded a $13,152,000 firm-fixed-price contract Feb. 14, 2011. The award will provide for, at least, 2,400 UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. Work will be performed in Erie, Penn., with an estimated completion date of Jan. 31, 2016. Two bids were solicited with two bids received. The U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala., is the contracting activity (W58RGZ-11-D-0108).

    DRS Technical Services, Inc., Herndon, Va., was awarded a $12,100,000 firm-fixed-price contract Feb. 14, 2011. The award will provide for 10,000 VHF handheld radios, 10,000 VHF handheld radio accessories, 5,000 VHF mobile radios and 5,000 VHF mobile radio accessories. Work will be performed in Afghanistan, with an estimated completion date of April 21, 2011. The bid was solicited through the Internet with 21 bids received. The Kabul Regional Contracting Center, Cole House Contracting, Kabul, Afghanistan, is the contracting activity (W91B4M-11-C-4018).

    Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, LLC, Oakbrook, Ill., was awarded a $7,787,700 firm-fixed-price contract Feb. 14, 2011. The award will provide for the dredging of the Mississippi River’s Southwest Pass area. Work will be performed in Plaquemines Parish, La., with an estimated completion date of Feb. 14, 2011. The bid was solicited through the Internet with one bid received. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans, La., is the contracting activity (W912P8-11-C-0031).

    Raytheon Co., Tucson, Ariz., is being awarded a $23,317,060 modification to a previously awarded firm-fixed-price contract (N00019-09-C-0007) to exercise an option for the procurement of 64 Fiscal Year 2011 Tomahawk Composite Capsule Launching System (CCLS) Capsules. The work will be performed in Lincoln, Neb. (31.5 percent); Camden, Ark. (28.8 percent); Tucson, Ariz. (7.2 percent); Joplin, Mo. (7 percent); Carpentersville, Ill (4.9 percent); Rocket Center, W.V. Work will be performed in Oceanside and Fallbrook, Calif. The term of the contract is not to exceed 60 months with an expected completion date of Feb. 2016.     DEFENSE COMMISSARY AGENCY

    Kenosha Beef International, doing business as Birchwood Foods, is being awarded an indefinite delivery, requirements type contract on Feb. 16, 2011, to provide fresh and frozen beef products for resale at 98 commissary store locations throughout DeCA’s East Region. The estimated award amount is $15,838,065.30. Contractor will deliver fresh and frozen beef products to the store locations as needed. The contract is for a 2-year base period beginning March 20, 2011, through March 23, 2013. Three, 1-year option periods are available. If all three option periods are exercised, the contract will be completed Mar. 19, 2016. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. Fifteen firms were solicited, and three offers were received.
